With all of these new technologies advances, why are we not seeing a better battery? Well the good news is, scientists are trying to make a better battery. But, I feel like I need my wearables to last much longer then they do. I also want them to be more powerful. So what options do we have?

Well, there is now new materials that improve the reliability, safety, and storage capacity of lithium-ion batteries. According to Technology Review researchers at Argonne National Laboratory in Argonne, IL, have developed composite battery materials that can make lithium-ion batteries both safer and longer lived, while increasing their capacity to store energy by 30 percent. Yet-Ming Chiang, a professor of materials science and engineering at MIT, says the new material is “a significant improvement over lithium cobalt oxide” for laptop batteries. “If you think about it in terms of a field that grows 8 to 9 percent per year, you just saved yourself three years. You may have leapfrogged the competition,” he says. “I’m sure that anybody who makes cell phone and laptop batteries would be very happy to have that kind of an edge.”

We also here of the ‘Holy Grail’ Battery! But what is that? Well, at the forbes website, they explain that Yi Cui might just change the world. Yi Cui referenced ‘stabilizing lithium’ which is a big deal. Meaning PURE lithium anode batteries. That means a 300% longer life in all your gadgets.

Woohoo, so when do we get these? Well, that’s the thing. Although material and resources are cheap and plentiful, we unfortunately do not have a commercial product. When I say “we” I mean the world. Because, I didn’t invent or design any of it.

In the end, we still have a few more years before any of this will be launched and we will have better batteries. Until then, maybe we need to learn how to use less energy…
